OCI's Retail Modernization Project Grant provides up to $5,000 in non-repayable matching support for eligible hardware and software purchases. Potential categories include modern point-of-sale, payment, inventory and customer relationship systems, plus some qualifying AI technologies.
As of October 9, 2026, OCI advertised applications as open on a first-come, first-served basis while funds remain. Check the current program status before applying.
Funding is never automatic. OCI must approve eligible purchases and applicants must meet its current guidelines.
Who is the program for?
All current OCI rules apply. The criteria below are a starting point.
- Ontario-based incorporated, for-profit business
- Physical commercial storefront open to the public; not home-based
- Between 1 and 50 full-time employees
- At least one year operating and $100K+ annual revenue before tax

Modern POS and appropriate electronic payment systems.
Inventory & CRM
Inventory tracking and customer relationship or loyalty tools.
Eligible AI
AI and automation technology only where specific expenses meet program requirements.

OCI requires applicants to choose between Retail Modernization (up to $5K conditional matching technology funding) and DMAP (up to $15K conditional matching planning funding). The separate potential $50K TDP implementation stream is currently closed.

Are salons, restaurants and cafés covered?
OCI lists customer-facing stores, cafés and salons as examples, provided they meet the commercial location and other criteria.
Can I buy any AI tool with the grant?
No. Each proposed project and purchase must meet current OCI requirements and receive required approval.
Is $5K automatic?
No. The grant is conditional matching support up to $5K, subject to available funding and approval.
Can I combine this with DMAP?
No. OCI states applicants can apply for either RMPG or DMAP, not both.
